Fontenot, Ruth Alexander Robertson – American Artist & Historian

Ruth Alexander Robertson Fontenot (1914 to 1995)

Born in Opelousas, Louisiana, Ruth Robertson Fontenot was a historian, genealogist and artist. She attended Newcomb College of Art for two years, but due to the economic hardship of the Depression transferred to Southwest Louisiana Institute (today University of Louisiana, Lafayette).

Fontenot was the food editor of Louisiana Life and wrote for The Acadian Lifestyle and The State Line. In the 1980s, Fontenot lived in the Upper Pontabla Apartments. She was an active member of the Friends of the Cabildo and Friends of Jackson Square and was known as a charming hostess.
