Preston Powers (American, 1843 to 1931)
The masterful work of Preston Powers continued the tradition of his father, renowned American sculptor Hiram Powers (1805 to 1873), in creating illuminative sculptural portraits. After leaving his father’s Italian studio, Powers operated in Boston, modeling the portraits of prominent individuals. He taught in both Cincinnati and Denver, and exhibited in the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 before returning to Florence, where he spent his remaining years.
