Pfaltzgraff Pottery
Pfaltzgraff, of York, Pennsylvania is one of the oldest pottery makers in the United States. German immigrant George Pfaltzgraff and his family began making pottery in York, Pennsylvania, in 1811. They made redware and stoneware for over 100 years.
From 1811 to 1913 the pottery produced gray salt-glazed and blue decorated food storage stoneware, consisting of jugs and crocks. From 1913 to 1942 they specialized in red clay flowerpots; after 1942 the company returned to stoneware production. For a brief period during the Depression, 1931 to 1937, the company produced art pottery, and beginning in 1940 and continuing into the present time they manufacture dinnerware including popular patterns of Gourmet, Heritage, and Yorktowne. Additionally, during the 1940′s the company produced a series of collectible character mugs and dishes called “Muggsie”.
