George Elmer Browne (1871-1946)
Born in 1871 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, George Elmer Browne was a popular impressionistic painter that was active in America and abroad. He studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, the Cowles Art School and at the Academie Julian in Paris. While in Paris he also studied with the artist Robert-Fleury Lefebvre but did not espouse Cubism or Futurism both popular generas of that era. In 1904, the French Government bought one of his Cape Cod paintings. Browne died in Povincetown, Massachusetts in 1946.
