Sheldon Peck (American, 1797 to 1868)
Born in Cornwall, Vermont in 1797, Peck is known to have been painting portraits in Vermont in 1824. He then lived on a farm in New York around 1828. In the 1830′s he is known to have moved to Illinois where he established himself in the small village of Lombard near Chicago. Most of his Illinois work were double portraits in room settings. In these works he often painted a frame directly on the canvas. Peck died in 1868.
