Edwin Willard Deming (American, 1860 to 1942)
Edwin Willard Deming was born in Ohio and grew up in Western Illinois, where many of his playmates were children of the Winnebago tribe. He is best known as a painter of Native American life. Deming sold his possessions to travel east and train as an artist, studying at the Art Students League in New York and in Pairs at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. His work first appeared in exhibitions and publications in the 1890′s. His murals are well represented in museums across the country. His bronzes are small, most created between 1905 and 1910.
