Friedrich Ludwig Hofelich (German, 1842 to 1903)
Hofelich was born in 1842 in Leipzig, Germany. In 1860 he went to Petersburg to learn the art of the Xylograph, in which his brother was also trained. He lived modestly and was known for his library of books, which he used to further educate himself. He was also known to have studied music and languages. In 1865, Hofelich traveled to Berlin, Dresden and Leipzig to study art. In 1868 he moved to the country outside of Salzburg then traveled around Europe. He finally established himself in Munich where he remained for the rest of his life.
