Thomas Hewes Hinckley (American, 1813 to 1896)
Thomas Hinckley was born in Milton, Massachusetts and though he traveled extensively to the American west and Europe, he returned regularly to his home state. He studied art in Philadelphia, and by 1833 had become a professional portrait painter and sign painter. He set up a studio in Milton in 1845 and often used the surrounding scenery and animals as inspiration for his paintings.
