Lorenzo Palmer Latimer (American, 1857 to 1941)
Latimer was the son of California pioneers and an 1882 graduate of the San Francisco School of Design. His work was hailed by his contemporaries, and selections were exhibited at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Latimer would go on to teach at the Mark Hopkins Institute in San Francisco, later renamed the California School of Design. His work is increasingly sought after with the increased interest in California landscapes, but the body of available paintings is incomplete since many of Latimer’s artworks were destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire.
