John A. Ruthven (born 1933)
John A. Ruthven is a naturalist, author, lecturer and internationally acknowledged master of wildlife art. Often called the “20th Century Audubon”, Ruthven uses the same techniques as his famous predecessor. After studying and researching his subject thoroughly, he sketches to rigid specifications then painstakingly renders the original painting with infinite detail.
John’s fascination with nature began as a young boy in Cincinnati. In 1960 he entered the Federal Duck Stamp competition and won with his Redhead Ducks. This launched his wildlife art career. In 1971, John founded Wildlife Internationale’, Inc. to publish and distribute his limited edition prints made from his originals. His paintings have been accepted by some of the most highly acclaimed shows in the country including the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, The Artist of America exhibition and the Society of Animal Artist Tour. His distinguished unveilings of original paintings include: The White House, The Hermitage Museum, in St. Petersburg, Russia, The Ohio State Capital Rotunda and many other prestigious corporate offices and institutions all over the world.
