Raphael Strauss (1830-1901)
Raphael Strauss was born in Bavaria and purportedly began his career painting steamboats in the East. He was painting portraits and miniatures by 1858. City directories list him for better than 20 years maintaining a studio with fellow artist John Aubery. He was vice-president of the Cincinnati Art Club.
