Cornelis Botke (1887-1954)
Botke lived in Chicago in 1906, and enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met his wife, painter Jesse Arms. The two moved to Carmel, California in 1919 where Cornelius became an instructor at the Carmel Arts & Crafts, and exhibited at the Carmel Association of Artists, California Art Club, Foundation of Western Art, and the California Society of Etchers. In 1927, the Botkes moved to Southern California, and lived on a ranch in Santa Paula. His work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, New York Public Library, Santa Monica Public Library, Library of Congress, and the Lincoln Public Library.
