Cornelis Botke (1887-1954)

Botke lived in Chicago in 1906, and enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met his wife, painter Jesse Arms. The two moved to Carmel, California in 1919 where Cornelius became an instructor at the Carmel Arts & Crafts, and exhibited at the Carmel Association of Artists, California Art Club, Foundation of Western Art, and the California Society of Etchers. Louis William Bonsib (Indiana, 1892-1979)

Louis Bonsib was a landscape artist born in Vincennes, Indiana. He remained active in that state as a painter and teacher, serving as president of the Fort Wayne Art School in 1948 and 1949. The son of a New York doctor, Blakelock attended the Free Academy of New York where he studied music and fine art. From 1957 to 1963, Blackburn served as the first master printer at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE), West Islip. Birney, William Verplanck – American Artist

William Verplanck Birney (1858-1909)

William Birney, born in Cincinnati, was trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the Royal Academy in Munich and was one of only two Americans to sell paintings at the 1883 Munich International Exhibition. He painted a wide variety of subjects in venues that included Germany, Italy, France, and rural England, as well as America. His work is highly detailed and strong in color and composition. Bird, John Alexander Harrington – British/Canadian Artist

John Alexander Harrington Bird (1846-1936)

John Alexander Harrington Bird was a British-born painter who moved to Montreal, Canada in 1875 and exhibited at the Royal Canadian Academy. He moved back to London in 1885 and had five works exhibited at the Royal Academy. A number of prints were published after his work, including the popular The Queen’s Race Winners a series of thirteen racehorses with jockeys up.

Bibel, Leon – American Artist

Leon Bibel (1913 – 1995)

Born in San Francisco in 1913, Leon Bibel trained at the California School of Fine Arts and under the German Impressionist Maria Riedelstein. He worked in collaboration with Bernard Zackheim, a student of Diego Rivera, to create frescoes for the San Francisco Jewish Community Center and the University of California Medical School.

A founder of the Taos Society of Artists, Oscar Berninghaus was born in 1874 in St. Louis, Missouri and developed an interest in art through his family’s lithography business. In 1898, he traveled for the first time into New Mexico and Arizona.

Berkman, Aaron – American Artist

Aaron Berkman (1900-1991)

Aaron Berkman was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1900 and began studying painting from an early age. Beginning in 1916 he attended the Connecticut League of Art Students for two years, following which he studied with Albertus E. Jones from 1919 to 1921 at the Hartford Art School.
