Charles W. Hargens (1893-1997) Hargens was born in South Dakota. Growing up in the West gave Hargens the basis from which to paint his Western scenes. As his skill and interest in painting progressed, Hargens moved east to study at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. While at the Academy his work was influenced by instructor Daniel Garber. Channing Weir Hare (1899-1976) Channing Hare was born in New York in 1899. He studied at the Art Students League and with Robert Henri and George Bellows. He exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Society of Independent Artists. He passed away in Palm Beach, Florida in 1976. John Wesley Hardrick (1891-1968) A highly important African-American painter from Indianapolis, Hardrick (sometimes spelled Hardwick) studied at the John Herron Art Institute (Indianapolis), and exhibited at the 10th Annual Exhibition of Works by Indiana Artists in 1917, with fellow African-American painter, W. Simon Hardime (Flemish, 1664/72 to 1737) Born at Antwerp in 1664 or 1672, Hardime taught painting to his brother Pieter, and eventually moved to London in 1720. Theora Hamblett (Mississippi, 1893 to 1977) Theora Hamblett was born in 1893 and grew up on her father’s farm in Lafayette County, Mississippi. She attended a small school in Paris, about a mile from her home, and eventually became a teacher. For fifteen years she taught in a one-room schoolhouse. William Weeks Hall (American/Louisiana 1895-1958) William Weeks Hall was the only child of Lily Weeks and Gilbert Lewis Hall, the third generation owners of the Shadows-on-the-Teche plantation in New Iberia (today the only National Trust property in Louisiana).
