John Fulton Folinsbee (1892-1972)

Landscape painter John Folinsbee was a leading member of the New Hope School of American Impressionism, a group of artists working in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Folinsbee was born in Buffalo, New York, and studied there with Jonas Lie. By 1916 he had moved to Pennsylvania, where he began to paint landscapes of and around the Delaware River. Folinsbee is best known for his plein air winter scenes. A member of the National Academy of Design, he received numerous awards and exhibited widely throughout his career. His work is in many private and public collections.
