Adolf Arthur Dehn (American, 1895-1968)
Adolf Dehn was born in Minnesota, studying at the Minnesota School of Art. In 1921 he traveled extensively in Europe to further his artistic education, afterwards settling in New York City. He went on to develop innovative techniques in the medium of lithography, as well as painting landscapes in oils and watercolors.
In 1945, he authored a book “Watercolor Painting”.
Dehn ranks among America’s most important American Scene painters and is known for his deftly rendered watercolors of the Minnesota landscape and the environs of New York City. Like Charles Burchfield, he is considered one of the 20th Century’s most talented watercolorists.
