Birney, William Verplanck – American Artist

William Verplanck Birney (1858-1909)

William Birney, born in Cincinnati, was trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the Royal Academy in Munich and was one of only two Americans to sell paintings at the 1883 Munich International Exhibition. He painted a wide variety of subjects in venues that included Germany, Italy, France, and rural England, as well as America. His work is highly detailed and strong in color and composition.
