Malvina Cornell Hoffman (American, 1885 to 1966)
Malvina Hoffman began her sculpting career in Manhattan in 1909, when she created a posthumous portrait bust of her father that was accepted for the annual exhibition at the National Academy of Design. The following year she studied in Paris with Auguste Rodin and developed friendships with Henri Matisse, Anna Pavlova and Gertrude Stein.
Her works may be found in the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; The Frick Collection, New York; The San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego, California; The Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; The University of Michigan Museum of Art, Ann Arbor, Michigan; and many other well-known collections.
