Daniel Folger Bigelow (1823-1910)
Daniel Bigelow was born in New York, but moved to Chicago in 1858, there gaining a strong reputation as a landscape painter and becoming one of the associates of G. P. A. Healy and the group of artists who founded the Chicago Academy of Design, later to be called the Art Institute. Many of his landscape subjects were taken from trip to New York and new England and were painted for Chicago patrons who themselves had eastern roots.
